Good Morning Starshine; the Earth says hello!
And so do I!
Happy Thursday loves, I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far and are getting excited and prepared for the upcoming weekend ahead. I know, it’s been what feels like a lifetime since I last posted, but I’ve been busy. Between work and NaNoWriMo, I’ve barely had a minute to do anything – I haven’t even picked a book up this month, but, knowing what I was getting myself involved in with NaNoWriMo, I sort of expected that. If I am not at work, and not writing, I’ve been spending time with my husband and our little family. We’ve been crushing late night game sessions of 7 Days to Die on PS4, and it’s been a great stress reliever.
Speaking of NaNoWriMo, about a week ago, I surpassed 25,000 words in my WIP. I was so excited, but, I did what I subconsciously knew I shouldn’t, and I went and re-read what I had, from the beginning. Turns out, I didn’t like one of my chapters all that much, and I deleted the entire thing – 5800 words, gone in an instant, just like that. To make matters even more interesting, in the next chapter after the one I just deleted, I took out an entire scene that consisted of another 1000 words. With the cuts I made, and the rewording I did to make my words flow better, my WIP is under 20,000 words, and I am scrambling to get myself back on track and finish the next 8 days off strong. Here’s hoping I can pull 30,000 words out of my brain over the next week to complete my 50,000 word goal for November. Now, I know that won’t be anywhere close to my final product, but I am excited to have gotten such a start on something that means so much to me.
I never talk about my writing much, in fact, not many people have even known that it’s something I do, or that I enjoy. You see, I’ve always been self conscious of my work, everything from the countless binders overflowing with poetry, to my short stories, and other creative writing. As an aspiring author, this novel is my first attempt at something of a decent length, and it means the world to me. These characters have been in my mind for years, in fact, one of my main characters is the best friend of one of the main characters in one of my short stories I wrote when I was in high school. I originally intended this to be a stand-alone book, but, I’ve found such a love for my main character, that I just don’t want her story to end, so I believe I am going to turn this into a two, possibly even a three part series.
In other news, I’ve been asked to stay on the Wick Wish Candle Co. rep team, and it means the world to me. Rachel is such an amazing human, and so unbelievably talented. She has such amazing ideas and I am so honoured to be a part of the team, and help her shop in any, and every, way I possibly can. The new Winter line has just been released, and let me tell you, there isn’t one candle in that line that I don’t want to own. Every scent (the Burrow, Belle, Yulemas, Jughead, Buddy the Elf and more) sounds so perfect for the winter season – or any season really. The scents are paired absolutely perfectly and I cannot wait to get my order in the mail (come on and hurry up Canada Post strike!) so I can not only support one of the most amazing women I’ve had the pleasure of meeting through bookstagram, but to show them off to all my friends and followers, and have these amazing scents grace my nose and the labels beautify my book shelves. Don’t forget to use my code WICCAN10 at checkout to grab yourself a discount!
I also was named a rep for the wonderful Rae of Created by Rae MN, a beautiful book sleeve company from Minnesota. Rae has some absolutely stunning creations in her shop made with love to keep your prized literary possessions cozy and safe. Sized from small for your Kindle/mass market paper backs, to extra large ones for your large hardcover books, Rae has a book sleeve for everyone. Her fabrics don’t focus solely on fandoms (though you can find Disney, Harry Potter, and more!), and she has something for everyone with an abundance of patterns. My rep code will go live January 1st when my rep term officially begins, and I cannot wait to share Rae’s beautiful products with everyone! My code BOOKWICCAN10 gets you a 10% discount at checkout!
Also, you may have noticed I changed my handle – not only on here, but on twitter, instagram, tumblr, and am working my way through all my socials and pages. I thought it was time for a change, and, furthermore, I wanted to remove the word bitch. Don’t get me wrong, I am and always will be a bitch, I pride myself on being the no-bullshit type of person, and I am always up front and honest with my feelings and thoughts. I don’t have a problem bringing an issue to light because if it matters enough to bother me, it matters enough to be brought to someone’s attention. That being said, I am almost 30 years old, and, it’s time for a change. My new handle, thebookwitch, combines two of the most important aspects of my life aside from my family – my love of books, and my pride of being a witch. Stay tuned in to see what other changes are coming, including cleaning up the people I call friends, beginning my two new business ventures, continuing my current business venture with my husband, writing my book, house hunting, job searching, planning mine and my husbands vow renewal, and more.
Finally; I have begun a list of people who would like to be BETA readers for my NaNoWriMo WIP, so far I am sitting around 25 people who want to be considered to read my novel. I am always seeking more people who would be interested in reading and helping me work out any kinks in my novel. I also am looking for a couple people to read my first few chapters and let me know if this is something believed to be good enough or desired enough to be published. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject being “NaNo Beta” and I will happily add you to my spreadsheet list. Be sure to mention whether you would like to read my final draft or the first few chapters.
I hope everyone is staying warm and having a wonderful November so far. I’ll catch you all at the end of the month once NaNoWriMo is complete.
Until next post, stay witchy and wild, and happy reading, and writing.
Have a spook-tacular day!
Creep it real, witches.
